Tim Garrett
Cello
Cellist Timothy Garrett studied at The New England Conservatory Preparatory Program, The University of Southern Maine School of Music and The Bowdoin International Music Festival. His Instructors have included William Rounds, Nathan Stutch, Tsuyoshi Tsutumi, Peter Howard, Andre Emelianoff and Nicholas Jones. Chamber music studies with Lynn Chang, Peter Basquin, members of the Ying Quartet, members of The Vermeer String Quartet, members of The Portland String Quartet. Master classes with Christian Benda, Triple Helix Piano Trio and Steven Doane.
Tim has performed with Orchestras in Italy, Montreal and New York’s Carnegie Hall. He performs regularly with orchestras around the State. He has performed with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. He is also cellist for the resident BSO string quartet, The Juniper String Quartet.
Equally at home on stage with non-classical groups, Tim has performed and/or recorded with such groups as Rustic Overtones, Barefoot Truth and Grammy Award winners Ray Lamontagne, Mannheim Steamroller and Noel Paul Stookey. He also enjoys performing and recording with numerous Maine rock/folk/alternative musicians. He was the cellist in the Portland-based band Marion Grace.
Teaching students of all ages how to make music is a continual passion. Tim has been on the faculty of The Portland Conservatory of Music, River Tree Arts in Kennebunk, Midcoast School of Music, Apollon Music School and currently teaches at RDL Strings in Bangor and the Maine Coast Waldorf School. He has also served as faculty at the Winter Harbor Music Festival and on the Board of Trustees for the Bowdoin International Music Festival as the student liaison. During the summer he is faculty at Maine Summer Youth Music Camp on the University of Maine Orono campus.
